Painting

So today I painted the living room.  It was the first time in 20+ years that I bought more than one gallon of paint (of the same color) to paint a single room.  Now I’ve bought a five gallon bucket or two since then – but not two one gallon buckets.

Oh fershizzle…

Some of you already know what the rest of this post is about…yep…they weren’t the same shade.

Old, forgetful, dumb, pick one – or add one – they all apply.  I knew better – I knew I should get a bigger bucket and mix them together – I just forgot.

So now I get to paint the room again! Aren’t I lucky!

More Excuses

So I planned on typing something tonight – honest I did!

But when my four year old daughter asked me if I would lay down and help her fall to sleep well…chalk one up for a cop out!

There’s no guilt here though – I know what’s more important!

Week Four Wrap Up

Been the least productive week so far – at least from an entertainment writing perspective.

On the flipside this week I did my first prompt based story and did some significant work on another story I am thinking about submitting to Writer’s Digest annual competition. It’s got a deadline and I work way better with deadlines.

Also the week I found Writing.com.  I’ve read a few of the stories there – but I don’t have enough of a comfort level yet to review any.  I found it interesting that their system sent me an automated prompt telling me it’s been a few days since I stopped by.  The computer’s lookin’ out for me!

Gestures & Sayings

Again tonight the original thought processes are eluding me – so I spent some time doing realm work.  Many years ago I stumbled across this site and it had a long-lasting impact on the things I want to include in the creation of a realm (or realms as the case may be now).  Having served in the military overseas I tried to take note of sayings and gestures in different cultures.  I’ve spent a little bit of time here and there coming up with different sayings and gestures for my realm.

In doing research (once again at the oracle of knowledge known as Wikipedia) I have discovered that there are some really interesting customs in the world today. I think it is particularly intriguing that signs like “ok” with your hand are rude and offensive in other cultures.  I hadn’t thought of making a dual meaning gestures before – but now I am thinking it might be fun.

Somewhere in my meanderings I came across a few articles about revenge. To people who say “revenge is a dish best served cold” I retort – “have you ever tried it microwaved”.  I understand the underlying sentiment that revenge which is enacted with a period of expectation or dread is more fulfilling to some. For me it’s better to execute the revenge swiftly, silently and with due prejudice.  Unlike most people the mere act of vengeance is enough for me, I don’t need the other party to know it was me who achieved parity.

Another interesting cultural trait I intend on having literary fun with is honor. Honor is already a word that has a lot of different meanings and carries a varying degree of importance depending on the culture.

Deep down I know the real reason I like going to such depth in realm creation is because it allows me to spend time on the writing process – without having to actually write anything =P

First Prompt Post

The prompt was:

college student, crumpled paper, laptop, train

At 723 words but my daughter wants me to go read her to sleep (which means I’ll probably fall asleep myself not long after her). When it is done and somewhat coherent I’ll update this post.

To Tired to Think

Family in town, went to bed at 0230 this morning.  Then the kids – who were excited to see their family got us up before 0800.  After finishing painting the bathroom and removing the dead remains of last years garden all I want to do is lay down and go to sleep. So I am going to just babble a little bit.

I ‘ve started a couple new efforts this week, worked on some old stuff and solicited the assistance of a musically talented friend of mine to work out a “concept” piece.  Thinking I need to do a little WordPress gadget research so I can create a work space here for actually writing without exposing it to the masses (at least until I am ready to).

Had a really odd dream last night that is percolating in my sub-conscious and I’m expected to revisit it in the next night or two.  Hoping I remember more detail next time so that I can write it down. It’s almost a given that if I seed a dream I can make it occur – but I can’t always remember the finer details of the content. I’m waiting for the day the machine from Until the End of the World is invented and I can play my dreams back when I am awake.

While I was out removing the dead plants from the garden I heard screamin’, hootin’ and hollerin’ coming from the neighbors backyard.  Took me a couple minutes to realize that there was football on today.  When I finally got into the house I saw the scores. Can’t say I was really surprised - my least favorite team in each conference won today.  It was expected – the Pats because they know how to play ball and the Niners cause I intensely dislike.  I thought about it for a second and realized that the rule changes implemented over the last 10 – 15 years have really detracted from my enjoyment of the game.  I’m not talking about instant replay – I like it, I like what they’ve done this year.  No i’m talking about the pansification of the game. The Raiders of the 70′s is how football should be played. The primary object of the game should be to bury the other players into the ground – scoring should actually be based on the number of injuries you cause.

Not posting a music update for two reasons – it hasn’t changed and I finally got the RMA iPod back.  Not often I say something nice about a vendor but Apple really out did themselves with this recall. Sent in a 2GB v1 nano and a 4GB v1 nano and got back two 8GB new (looking at least) nanos!  In registering and trying to figure out what music went on what pod (one of them is my wife’s) I expended my patience for iTunes, at least for the day.
